During the JEF Festival, the Children's Jury awarded The Man Who Looked Beyond The Horizon the Best Short Documentary. The jury report stated:
"An original, interesting investigation of the journey of Bas Jan Ader across the ocean, which had a beautiful, deeper meaning. The film really interacts with the audience, which is a nice touch to the experience. While it's not a classic documentary, it definitely stole our hearts. The flight in this film will stick with us for a long time, very cool!
A member of the JEF Festival said the following about the reaction of the children: " I remember they were all really fascinated by the film. It was definitely their favorite of all documentaries, no doubt! They could't stop talking about it ;)"
